There have been 44 Super Bowl games played and 44 times a quarterback walked away without a ring. Some lost in a last second kick missed by his own kicker, or made by the opposing team's kicker. Other Super Bowl losing quarterbacks just could not put up enough points to compensate for a bad defense.

A capsule look at reasons for concern among teams in the AFC East: Buffalo Bills 1. Left tackle. The Bills might not be good enough at the position. LT Demetrius Bell struggled mightily last season and has gotten limited preseason reps coming off knee surgery, so stamina might be an issue. RT Cornell Green has not looked good in pass protection. The Bills must limit long-yardage situations because shaky pass protection could endanger QB Trent Edwards.

First, no Ben Roethlisberger. Now, maybe no Byron Leftwich for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Dennis Dixon, you're up next. Leftwich, expected to be the fill-in starter for the suspended Roethlisberger at quarterback for the Steelers, sprained his left knee in the second quarter as Pittsburgh (3-1) beat the starter-less Carolina Panthers 19-3 in the preseason finale Thursday night.

Matthew Stafford had an interception returned for a touchdown, but third-stringer Drew Stanton threw a pair of second-half touchdown passes to lift the Detroit Lions to a 28-23 win over the Buffalo Bills in their preseason finale Thursday night. Stafford's second pass was picked off by Drayton Florence and Detroit (3-1) punted on his second and last drive.
