Deeper & Down

September 10th, 2010

Welcome to another year for managers in the deepest and darkest of leagues. Last year you feasted on Pierre Garcon, Jermichael Finley and Mike Wallace to name but a few when they were all less than 3% owned in leagues. Let’s see what 2010 brings us.

Ben’s Brain Blog Post: Best Bet’s for week one of the NFL season

September 9th, 2010

Who will win, step up and get beat down in Week One of the NFL season…

Fantasy might be what revs up my football passion each and every year – it used to be the Washington Redskins, but if you have lived through the Dan Snyder era like I have, you know that is not so easy anymore – but I loooove making picks!
So while the straight up calls, all the way through the Super Bowl (though I had the Colts), were rather solid (177-97), the actual picks against the sp

Portis NOT on injury report – ready to play

September 9th, 2010

Washington Redskins starting runningback Clinton Portis (ankle) is not on the injury report and is ready for Sunday’s season opener as reported by Rotowire.com.
On August 31 Portis returned to practice and was not expected to play in the preseason finale against the Arizona Cardinals, as reported by Rich Campbell of the Fredericksburg Free Lance-Star.
Portis signed an eight year contract in March of 2004 for $50.5 million. In Portis’ eight games he averaged 4.0 yards per carry. FANTASY ANALYSIS: I have been hearing so many reports on how the Shanahans expect Portis to lead the team this year, and that he is in great shape, etc., but my needing to trust him for the entire year scares me. I won’t trust him to get 1,700+ yards as he did in 2008, but may trust that he garners more yards than last years’ 551 when his concussion allowed him to pay in only eight games…

The Prognosticator – Week 1

September 9th, 2010

If there weren’t surprises each week in the NFL, they wouldn’t have to play the games.  Each and every week there’s a head scratcher, one that doesn’t seem to make sense.  The Redskins beating the Cowboys to me is a shocker and that’s exactly what will happen, keep 911 on speed dial Cowboys fans.  The Cowboys will do well in the air, they’ll do well on the ground, heck, their offense will rumble but the Redskins defense will have their mini-moments of glory too.  What some folks may not realize is that the Redskins secondary is good, really good.  New coordinator Jim Haslett has moved guys around and put them in positions to succeed.  Where the Redskins win this is with some untimely interceptions from Tony Romo that cause a shift to the odds that the Redskins walk away victorious.  <a href="http://www.fantasysharks.com/players/playerpage…

Buccaneers taking it safe with Josh Freeman

September 9th, 2010

Much like the workload of a high-class pitching prospect in baseball, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are being cautious with their top “hurler,” quarterback Josh Freeman. They are trying to limit his pitches, so to speak.
Freeman broke the thumb on his throwing hand during an Aug. 21 preseason game. He returned to practice for the first time Tuesday as a full participant; everything seemed to be fine. Then he missed Wednesday’s entire practice. Did he suffer a setback? Nope. Freeman is on schedule.
“I’m good,” Freeman said of his thumb. “It’s part of the plan; no setbacks. It’s part of the plan. It’s called a plan because it’s put in place before something happens. So it’s a plan.” FANTASY ANALYSIS: So you’re saying this was part of a plan? I didn’t quite get that the first four times Freeman said it…
